This is the portrait of a young Kanak student, a voluntary exile, who is in France to go to university. ‘Kanaky my country’ illustrates the difficulties of young Kanaks in France, the cultural divide, family and community isolation and the heavy responsibility of honouring the hopes and expectations of parents and relatives.
