On the Philippine island of Palawan, Medsinu succeeded his father by becoming a shaman in an isolated society, living in the forest. Both healer and judge of customary law, Medsinu perpetuate traditions. He must cope with the increasing pressures of the modern world embodied by the Visayan, Filipino who living on the coast at the edge of the forest.
