Espoir-Voyage

Director : Michel K. Zongo

« In my country, young people emigrate as a rite of passage to adulthood. But the rule is that you leave to come back. In fact for many this is a journey of no return, for various reasons that those who stay behind often cannot understand. Joanny, my big brother, suddenly left his family one morning in 1978. After 18 years, and still no news, cousin Augustin, who had come back from Côte-d’Ivoire, told us that Joanny was dead. To try and understand what had prompted my older brother to go when he was barely 14, I did the same journey from Koudougou (Burkina Faso) to Côte-d’Ivoire, searching for traces of him and his story. » Michel K.
